Interested in crafting with wool? Come join us for a workshop in the Greenhouse
Sunday, October 12th (9:30am - 3pm)
We are thrilled to have Fiber Artist, Alyson Baker, here at the Farm to instruct this creative and whimsical class using Cabbage Hill wool! This workshop will provide basic instruction on the techniques used to create dimensional forms and surface designs using wool. Participants will learn about the properties of wool; selecting and handling carded wool; the basic principles of felting; the types of felting needles; and the mechanics of how these needles join and compact wool fibers. During this session, we will make small pieces of flat felt and several types of sculpted shapes, and learn how to apply decorative patterns to their surfaces. All the supplies and materials needed for the workshop projects will be provided, and each participant will get a felting kit. Additional Cabbage Hill wool roving and yarn will be available for purchase. The tools and techniques acquired at the workshop can then be employed in a wide range of projects and applications.
Workshop fee and felting kit - $150
(Optional boxed lunch sandwiches with cookies from LMNOP Bakery available at time of checkout.)
The workshop is led by River Valley Arts Collective founder Alyson Baker who learned how to needle felt at a Cooper Hewitt Museum class presented in conjunction with the 2009 exhibition Fashioning Felt. Since then, she has practiced the craft and hosted skill shares as a point of connection between material, making and community.
